The Books of Samuel pick up where the Book of Judges ended. Yahweh makes Samuel a prophet but the Israelites are no longer satisfied with prophets and judges; instead they want a king so they can be strong like other nations. Yahweh is reluctant, but eventually agrees and has Samuel anoint Saul as the first king of the Israelites.
